There are usually places available at outdoor events; no botanical knowledge or skills are required. Anyone in u3a is welcome to attend an outdoor event.
The main aim of this group, apart from fun, fresh-air and meeting like-minded people, is for members to help each other to learn about British wildflowers, especially how to identify them. We develop basic plant ID skills: key diagnostic characteristics, nomenclature, classification and use of field guides, mainly through informal small group learning.
Events are held throughout the year, usually on 2nd Monday afternoon of each month, with extra sessions during Summer peak flowering times. Outdoor field meetings are held at various local nature reserves or other beauty spots, most of the time being spent examining flora, with a minimum of walking. Indoor winter meetings comprise talks by members on a variety of botanical topics; unless otherwise stated, they are held at convenor's home.
